My dome lights stay on after exiting the vehicle for 15mins(no joke). At first I thought it was do to a remote start/security system(another pita). According to the system site the domes are only active for up to 30 secs. Is there (and if so, where) a domelight control module. The domes stay on after starting the truck until you hit 7mph. This sucks in the dark when backing, you are BLIND to the outside. PLease help... THANKS
Time to add an override switch and have control of when you want then on or off. You will find the wires under the pass kick panel, both the inside lights and the running boards.
I have the same issue but have the override so I haven't worried about it to much. I think it is either in a relay or the delay switch.

Oh, 02 limited if makes a diff...
Make sure you don't have the dash board brightness
turned up all the way to where the interior lights come on.
(Not sure if works that way on the Ex, but most cars have this).
Then the 30 minutes might be the battery tender kicking in.
It would also account for why the lights are in with engine running.
Stuck door switch? Is the door open light on in the dash? I am getting ready to install the override switch for night trips with the kids, that way the interior lights don't come on while they are asleep.
Stuck door switch would be my first guess also. Had this exact same thing happen on my work truck(Ford Ranger), dome lights only turned off after I'd start driving. Had dealership replace it, no more probs.
If you shut your truck off, get out and lock the doors with the fab or by pressing 7,8 9,0 on the door pad, do they turn right off or do they stay on until they time out?

They stay on.
I do have the door ajar light on,hate to tare into each panel tho.
thanks for the link. I am going to do the mod this weekend. When we travel it is usually at night so our 3 year old and 3 month old sleeps. But when we get out to change drivers the lights come on and wake them up, so this will be a great help.
Thanks!

Which wires are they for the domelight override.
Have you tried spraying WD-40 into the latch and opening and closing the door several times? The switches are on the door latch inside each door. you can actually remove each switch and clean and reinstall. I would spray one latch at a time until you see a difference and when you find the culprit then take the panel apart. Then you can throughly clean the switch and reinstall.
The hatch of our X was missing the switches completely and I had to get new ones. Now all our doors work as advertised.
I think I have the same problem. The dome lights and running board lights don't turn off when I close the vehicle.

Please can you show me the -->latch<-- at a picture. I don't know what you mean. Sorry to appear stupid, but English is not my native language.
Thanks in advance.
Finally got around to working on the dome light thing today. So started by spraying down with "wd40" type penetrating oil, each one. Then open n close for a total maybe an hour. No luck. Started looking into the aftermarket security/remote start system which ties into the dome lights. Got very frustrated at the idiot that installed that mess. Eliminated it for the time being. Found the wires to do the override switch, but didn't do it yet(kinda like things to work as supposed to). Sprayed with electrical cleaner worked the latches again but this time with a screwdriver latching n unlatching all doors and hatch ,Damn no luck(not a happy camper now). Then out of time, got to go see a movie. After getting dinner n on the way to the movie was telling my wife that I was feeling beaten by this stupid thing. Next thing I notice just a second later is the door ajar light is out on the dash.YES, THANK GOD,no tearing apart the door panels. Got out to go to the movie and 20 seconds later the domelights were OUT!!!!!!!!! YEA!!!!!!! Thanks to all of you who helped with info.
Finally the light problem has been solved alone. Here in Tanger/Morocco we have at this moment a lot of air humidity and my X was very dirty. I have cleaned the car and a day with many sun has dried the X and arranged the problem. Meanwhile the light was turned on I have pulled out the fuse number "35". (Excursion 7.3 2003) At least a solution before the battery goes down. I could not disconnect the battery because for the radio.

Sorry I must have missed this post. Did you figure it out? If not it is what the keeps the door closed.
Thanks for the picture. What I'm was searching for was the electrical door contact. I could not find it. I found that the problem is on the cargo doors because I do open these doors only sometimes and when we have a lot of air humidity and the X is dirty the problem appear. I'm not sure if there is a solution for this. Maybe it is better to maintain the X clean and dry.
