Has anyone here flipped trailer axles?
I just aquired a older 5th wheel travel trailer and it doesnt fit my truck very well.
I need to lift it up for it to be level and clear my box better.
Ive heard conflicting stories about doing this.
Welding the saddles/perches back on sounds like a problem from what Ive heard?
Any opinions welcomed....................
if you weld it it can get hot and i have read where it can melt something in the axles?cant confirm this
but they are arched up so the arch well have to be bent.
maybe blocks to lift it?
I had a company that builds and sells trailers flip the axles on my 94 prowler wasnt a big deal they had to reweld the spring perches and that was about it. If you are not a experienced welder them I would take it to place like that
Ordinarily just moving the springs from the bottom of the axle to the top will give you all the lift you need, thats about all you can do if you have a straight axle.. Drop axles are another matter though, you can do the same to them if the springs are mounted underneath, if not, just get some staright axle and put them under it.. probably even use your old drums hubs and such with the same size spindle..
