Compression test results!

7: 360. 8: 290.
5: 360. 6: 360.
3: 355. 4: 340.
1: 350. 2: 360.
So all seems well but number 8! I know this is not good but could it be my lack of power on the top end? I still think something else is up but what to do now, that is the question! Can I throw sticks and a turbo at it and run it like this?

Put a few drops of oil in #8 and check it again to see if the number improves.

I did drop a
Lil oil in the cyl and then tested it. 1st time 290, then oil added 350, third try 330, fourth 310, fifth 290 and that's where she stayed. I'm guessing that's a sign of ring wear or breakage. Has anyone else ran an engine like this? How long did it last? Just when I was ready to drop a set of sticks and turbo this is what I find. So some have said just run it and have a back up plan. Would it hurt to put the sticks and turbo on this motor? Then I could just put em in the next motor. Really no idea how long it's been like this! The truck runs the same as it did 25,000 miles ago.

it might be better in the long run to build the motor now as not to trash the block.

Adding the oil and having the pressures increase sure sounds like cylinder wear to me but I can't help but wonder about a possible exhaust valve seat problem instead. #8 is only 80% down from the highest cylinder so I am not sure that would cause your high EGT readings.

I don't know how to check for bad valve seats but perhaps you can try pressurizing the cylinder to about 40 psi or so and see if you can hear where the air is leaking.

Does anyone know what the symptoms are for a toasted exhaust valve and seat?

I am asking because I don't know....but wouldn't a cylinder with excessive blow by show up as a high fuel reading in the oil when analyzed?
