Center

Jim, Thanks, I think that is the route I will go.

The center section seems fine. I was going to just rebuild the turbo and out a WW on while I did the pedastal Orings, everything seemed fine, this was just going to be a PM deal.

Anyone else think i should rebuild it, or toss it?

thanks much

Well the turbo is balanced as an assembly, changing the wheel may disturb that balance.

More importantly, I'd be searching for what caused that carnage. That turbine ate something.

these turbos dont necessarily need balanced

and I would be careful in your decision. CPUneck is right on with finding WHY its in the condition its in

If the center section allowed enough play to let the wheel(s) contact the housing(s) it is not rebuildable

Mine looked the same. Only reason I'm not rebuilding mine is cause all the in and out play from the thrust bearing failing wore out the compressor backing plate. Gives me a reason to upgrade! I really think the exaust wheel damage was caused by heat. Reason being the housing on mine had no sign of debris passing through it. And the way all the fins are peeled back leads me to think it's heat. Kinda scary. In fact if I'm not mistaking when looked at where the fins where damaged compared to the housing that's right where the exaust comes in from the babys but. I think the exaust wheel is stainless, maybe. I know it's not magnetized but if you think about a cherry red or orange flame blowing in the ends of that wheel turning at those high of speeds I could see how it would peel it back. If I'm wrong tell me, this is what I've
Conclude on mine. If it's wrong I'd like to know what causes this!

I think that price comes with a rebuild kit. But if clay has a van turbo that may be cheaper and more beneficial in the long run!
