Almost ready to put mine on the market. I'm really happy with mine so I won't be rushed. But I am eager to see the difference. Maybe I can get a test drive someplace. That might make me more motivated. Also have to save up for the difference.

your best bet for a test drive would be to try and find a dealership with a 2010 leftover. the 3v v10 was used in the 250s and 350s from 05-10. i can see that you probably wouldn't not to buy that new of a truck, but the 08-10 super duties have the same engine and trans combination for the gas motors as they did for 05-07
I sense knowledge of and demand for the V10 is going up.
For a decade there, "common knowledge" was that if you wanted to tow, you had to have a diesel. And that they were cheaper to operate.
Reality is finally overriding common knowledge. Diesels are great and have a place, but many, many owners would find the V10 would be a better option for them.
Actually, Ford does still make the V10, but are not offering it in the 2011 F250/350 as they are pushing the new 6.2L V8.
Still available in F450+ and van/RV chassis.
The good news is that it will still be around to put back in if the 6.2 isn't well received...
If you arent in the market for a real new truck, you could look into the Dodge V-10. The made them up to 03. All years have 300HP and 450 FT LBS of torque. Its a beast. Very reliable motor.

IMHO that may be true about the engine its the rest of the truck that falls apart on dodge.
My 08 crew cab 4x4 with the v10 is just adequate for acceleration- 0-60 comes in about 9 seconds- not exactly a beast as some have described. Super smooth and its a great tranny for sure, but I dont' know if I would be expecting a night and day difference between the two engines- 80hp is a lot- but greatly diminished by the weight of the truck. If your not interested in the nicer interior of the 2008 plus trucks or the extra features I would just stick with you current truck. 139k is really low miles for that year!

Good post.
I have an 05 3v Crew Cab with 4.10's, an 03 2v Reg cab dually F350 with 3.73's, and an 03 2v Reg Cab F550 with 4.88's. The 05 crew cab and the 03 F350 run neck and neck because of their weight difference, and there's no substantial difference towing. The F550 on the other hand is amazing with 4.88's! It just goes and goes and goes, doesn't give a hoot what's behind it, on it, etc. I suspect Ford de-tunes the 450/550 on the top end though, as it doesn't rev as hard as the others do, but the torque is awesome!
