The bed liner question!

So I have pretty much determined that I am going to do the bed liner myself rather than spend $600 the local pros charge. I have been doing some research and thought I would get some opinions from you guys. I have narrowed the choices down to either Raptor Liner or Herculiner. I figured I would see what you guys thought and if you have any personal experience with either product, please chime in!

I haven't heard much about Raptor, i've used Herculiner several times including doing the entire exterior of my old '74 Suburban. If you go that route i'd definitely spring for the UV protectant, I haven't used it but I know that without it the bedliner fades in a couple of months. Are you going color matched or black? My favorite black bedliner is the Duplicolor brand available at O'reilly's. In either case good prep is the key! Also the opinions on this are varied by my preference is to pull the masking tape before the bedliner dries because it tends to tear if the bedliner dries on it. Actually if you catch it just right and let it dry around 5 minutes you can pull the tape without it tearing and if the edge of the bedliner comes up with the tape a little you can gently push it back down with your finger.

dont use the Herculiner, it does not roll out very nice... i have seen a truck bed done with it. Raptor liner, never heard of it.

when i do mine, i will be using Al's bedliner kit.

Wow, that Al's looks like really good stuff, a much more professional texture to it. And yes, what I was getting around to saying was that I wouldn't recommend the Herculiner...

Raptorliner vs Herculiner is no contest. I've used both and the Raptorliner is a two part epoxy mix, UV resistant and if you get the clear you can tint to your truck color. You can also control the texture by how many coats sprayed. Comes with it's own Shutz gun in each kit. TCP Global has the best price I've seen for it. Search "Raptorliner" on E-Bay.

I have heard good things about Al's too, but never seen it or talked to anyone who used it first hand. Guess I need to research it a bit more.

Just to update this thread as well, here is what the raptor liner turned out like. If you have a large bed like me, buy a couple extra bottles and some more hardner.

It is sprayed in. For $110 shipped to the house it included the spray gun to spray it with, although it says you can roll it on if you prefer.

crashtke,

Sorry to post on an old thread, but it looks like you sprayed the lower body panels too.. Will you post a pic?

I actually didn't. I just sprayed up over the edge. The lower part is just primer.
