Truck just started doing this. While driving on the freeway, at 65 and going up a slight hill, I'll lean into the throttle a hair to keep it at 65. Normally the truck is at about 2100 RPM at these speeds and motors right up them. Yesterday and today, it will jump 200-300 RPM like its down shifting, but it's not. I'm not too worried about this, but if there is a problem here, I would like to address it as soon as possible. Anyone heard or have any experience with this? Thanks for the input, Todd
Ok. Its parked for the evening, but I'm going to drive it tomorrow with the ICP mod still in and make sure I'm not crazy. It didn't do it on the way home from work. If its acting up, I'll remove and test. I did notice it once or twice this winter before the mod and it went away until now. Fluid level was 3/4 full on the hot mark with a few bubbles. Thanks for the help guys
There are a LOT of things that can make the TC unlock when it's not supposed to. 2 shops told me my kids E4OD was fried and it was far from it. One problem was the solenoid pack was bad, the other was the TP sensor was misadjusted and THEN the RPM sensor wires shorted together. It kept throwing code 62 which doesn't tell you much except that the TC is slipping. That code puts it in limp home mode.
Don't condemn the TC or transmission till you've diagnosed it properly. That's all I'm saying. My kids is a 93 IDI and sat for several years with mice and other critters chewing on stuff underneath but it's running great now! Just took a while to catch and fix all the little problems.
It was doing it again this morning. If removing the ICP mod doesn't work, what should be my next course of action? I'm supposed to take it camping next weekend and don't want to be stranded with my yuppie buddies that know nothing about trucks and like to give me a hard time for driving a 15 yr old truck.
Is it the tc unlocking or is it a downshift from od?
Does the od lamp work?
You have to give better info on your issue.
It could be something simple or not.
The TC is unlocking. OD light is working properly. I thought it was shifting out of OD at first, but when I took it out of OD, the rpm jumped a lot. Im 98% sure it's the TC unlocking at speed. It won't do it on side streets
I have a TC lock switch. Its just a simple toggle switch where you can ground the wire by the trans and keep the TC locked. I mention this for testing purposes. The wire is pink, purple, I can't remember. I can look if you want.
