I took my boat to service about a 100 mile run. Boat and trailer weigh about 6k+. The truck never acknowaledged the trailer was there. What do I have to do to use trailer brake and such. It kept showing No trailer.
Most boat trailers use hydraulic surge brakes rather than electric brakes. I think the truck will only recognize trailers with brakes that require electric activation (electric or electric over hydraulic). Surge brakes do not require a controller.

Agree. My 21ft bass boat has hydraulic surge brakes. It needs the 5 wires (has the reverse to diasble the brake lockout) and I use the 7 pin RV plug adapter.
If you've already checked all the fuses, just run the truck and trailer down to a local trailer supply or RV dealer and ask them to help you you. It should be a simple wiring issue.

+1 I would think it would only tell you that you have a trailer that would require it's electric brakes controlled. How could it see a trailer with only the lights connected and on the class 5 hitch????
I had the same thing taking my boat in for service. I just assumed it was the trailer type. However, it would be nice to see it to track the miles on the trailor. So should it show the trailer no mater the connection type?
The 7 pin connector on my travel trailer didn't make contact with my 2011 f350 initially. A little lube on the outside and goes right in, connection made!
