I recently bought a 2016 F250. I have about 4,000 miles on it now. I'm having trouble with trailer lights.
I don't have any trailer turn signals. I cleaned out the connector, got a new adapter, checked fuses (although I don't see any that say trailer turn signals). Any suggestions?
I thought it was a trailer issue, but my boat trailer is almost new. So I tried utility trailer and no turn signals either.
I would check your ground wires, if you have a ground that is bad or might have been missed. If one of your grounds is messed up or missing that could be a problem, it would be the same.if you have a ground that is not making a good connection.
if in doubt take some sand paper where the ground is on the frame, sand it down and re screw it down. It could be a poor contact to the frame.
I would also call up your ford dealer talk to the parts guys and ask ( if your manual doesn't state it ) if there is a particular fuse or relay that would be assigned to your trailer plug connection and ask him what numbers and where on the fuse box under the hood or in the dash panel that might have blown or be missing that may be causing your issue
If both trailers are acting the same way, it's not your trailers. Have you looked under the hood fuse box and identified the turn/brake light fuse?
Cleaning your 7 pins connectors is a good idea but I bet you have a bad connection on one of your brake/turn connections and blew that fuse.
Pretty common to do if your boat lighting wasn't unplugged while submerged.
I remember having the same problem with my trailer stop/turn lights, I would double check the fuses and manual again, I am pretty sure it is either a fuse or a relay problem.
Also, there is a tester that you can use to test the 7 pin and the 4 flat light wiring on the truck end. When I am having trailer light problems I pull this out of my tool box first (well after ensuring the harness from the trailer is fully plugged in).
Just like senix and xr7 said, it's under warranty, take it to the dealer if it doesn't look like a fuse
The other thing to note is that both blinkers/brakes don't work. Each blinker is on a separate circuit and pretty much eliminates a boat wiring issue. Maybe one side but not both sides.
Go back under the hood.
Also, why fight with it while it is under warranty? take it in with a trailer and show them.
This was my first thought. You paid for a new truck, let Ford pay to fix it.
I keep a couple of trailer connector testers around. A 4 pin and a 7 pin. If those showed the plug not working, you can bet I'd be at a dealer with this issue on a 2016.
had the same issue on my dodge 2500 and I was blowing a fuse under the hood in the fuse block and I had a bad ground some where so I added another ground wire to the wire that kept blowing the fuse.
but it was a dodge and it had other ground issues
