I bought a 2006 explorer 4x4 with the v6 back in january. after a couple weeks of having it i realized the button to turn off the overdrive was missing. the main button is there and i can use a pin to push it but the cover. i found the switch for $18 at my local dealer. the wife and i will be going to the mountains in a couple weeks and i would love to have the button working correctly without haveing to use a ink pin.
the question is how do you get the old one out. i know onn the colum shifters the button just pulled out but i have the console shifter and im not sure how to get it out. i was able to pull it out about 1/8 inch then it wouldnt come anymore and was afrad to pull it too much and break it so i pushed it in untill i hear something.
According to the manual, you need to remove the console, remove the shifter assembly, then remove the shift **** from the lever to access the switch and wiring.
Might want to have the dealership print the instructions for you, it is several pages long.
