One of the guys in my shop told me this morning that with a grill guard on my truck, if I get in an accident the air bag will not deploy. Can anyone confirm this or is his info bad?
This site is great. I learn something new about my truck every day. Thanks for all the info past and future.
Airbag "switches" are not switches that are set when something comes in contact with them. They are inertia switches and are usually located somewhere in the firewall.
If anything you stand a greater chance of them deploying in a small crash because the deceleration required to set them off will be greater since the grill guard may not crush like the stock body is designed to.
I have never cut one open but I was informed that there is a gold plated ball retained by a magnet and when the inertia from a impact is great enough, the ball will seperate from the magnet and complete the circuit. The orientation of the mounting position is important!
Good thing you asked the question here first, before you found out the "hard way" I've also heard several stories where the air bags never deployed ? Or was it just on the crown Vic's ?
I know the Crown Vic's had a gas tank problem at one time or another. . . . .. .
