Hey guys,
I noticed a problem with my door locks today. The drivers door lock switch has stopped working. It will lock all the doors, but will not unlock them. The passenger door lock switch and keyless entry work fine. All doors will lock and unlock with the keyless entry or the passenger door switch. I am assuming it is the door lock switch on the drivers side that is bad. Just want to get some feedback before I buy a $20-$40 door lock switch. Plus, I have heard of some people talking about lock problems and replacing actuator motors.
I got the same buzz when pressing unlock. In my case, it was the switch. The switch on the other door worked fine for both doors. When I took the switch out and used a cliplead instead, it worked fine. I found my switch (2004 E350) could easily be disassembled to actually see the contacts. Pressing the contact arm down with a finger instead of the plastic button also worked fine. It seems the plastic button was not pushing the metal arm down far enough to snap it on. I put a wee bit of solder on the metal at the point where the plastic button touches it, and solved the problem. (Actually got too much solder on it in the photo; had to grind some off with a Dremel tool. A very thin layer, much less than a millimeter was needed.) Note that I did not have to remove the door panel to get the switch out. Just lift the back of the switch panel with a screwdriver and it comes out.
