Hello
Hello
I sold my Expy and bought an 04 6.8 Excursion Limited to tow my Lightning around to different tracks. Since there isn't much left unmodded on the Lighting, i've turned my attention to the Excursion and started to accessorize.
So far, I've decided on the following.
Backup Camera (Done...I'm gonna make another post about this)
Snow plow (7.5 Western about to be restored before install)
Exhaust (undecided)
Laptop Mount install (Ram)

Thats def coming..
...Thanks for the advice.
lol
I specifically chose the v10 because I know how to work on them...I know nothing about the diesels and dont feel like learning. That being said, I do realiise the diesels have more power and use less fuel.
Mirrors are low on the list (but are def being considered...I forgot to list them) as I'm not yet towing a big camper. My current setup is a 18" open deck 2 axel car trailer. I use it to tow my lighting around.

The diesels are easy to work on, easier than the V10 in my opinion. And stuff goes wrong less often. Just wait until you have to change a plug on one of the rear cylinders, it's quite a project. The v10's are not bad, but just not having to try and change those rear plugs and wires alone is well worth it to me.
And the mirrors, it's night and day between the two on visibility. Even without a trailer, the vehicle is big, and the tow mirrors make you able to see your rear wheels, very convenient for getting into tight spaces.

If that was the engine you wanted you chose the right one. There is good and bad with either the 6.8 or 6.0. I'll second the tow mirrors though, these rigs are big and the extra mirror is great even for daily driving.

The rear plugs on these are a walk in the park compared to my lightning or my old Expy...lol (under the cowel and heater hoses plus one less direction to move unless I yank the S/C off.
Mirrors are def on the list at some point...Just after the rest

Welcome to FTE bro.

Thanks for the warm welcome
Here is a shameless copy of my pic ***** thread from LR...
No one should ever accuse me or my truck of being just for show..

Ford has made several vehicles that don't subscribe to their old tag line of "a better idea".
My '97 F-150, 5.4 motor is one of them. Gotta pull the fuel rails to get to the back plugs/coils. And the heat build-up guarantees that something back there will fail about once a year.
The '79 ?? 302 Mustang was another. The motor had to come off the mounts to get to the rear plugs. That was before unleaded fuels became popular so that, too, was an annual event.
Crawling into the engine compartment of an X to get to the V10's plugs is a walk in the park by comparison.
