Which Scanner

I am looking for a OBD II scanner and am torn between the laptop setup or the Equus 3140.

Anyone have any experience with the laptop software,(autotap, scantool) or some of the others?

My wholly unrelated (microscopes, etc) experience with laptop-based tools is that they typically can do more things than a handheld tool, but you have to ask yourself if you want to whip out the laptop every time you need to scan codes or whatever.

That could be a pain, my only concern is my check light flickers during hard acceleration, it does not stay lite. I don't know if the hand scanner will catch the problem after the fact.
