5Speed Transmission Bump
I have a 2010 Ford SD F350 5.4L w/3.73 ratio and 5 Speed Torque shift transmission. I was getting a lil bump when almost stopped at a stop light and then a lil bump underneath when taking off from stop. I did research this in the SD section and took it back to the dealer for them to relube the slip yoke. This has been done. Now, I am having the same lil bump on stopping and take off. I talked with others at work and they said might be the torque converter?. Just wondering if anyone else has had issues with something like this. I am planning on going back to the dealer in May. Just feels like something is moving underneath?. Thanks for any help.
Went to Dealer and had service tech drive my truck. It was cool here in the morning. Didn't notice the bump until it really warmed up. The Tech did feel it twice on take off from a stop light. He looked in the computer and a TSB was out about a low speed bump, clunk, pop etc....saying this is normal for the transmission and that no action is required. So,, I left somewhat satisfied.
Next day went to a neighbors transmission shop and asked what he thought. He said that it sounds legit. There should be a lil movement before takeoff due to the power of these super duties. Without a lil play in the movement, on takeoff you could pull the u-joints right out of their socket. He is good with transmissions and also said get another dealership service advice. He also reminded me to get my transmission fluid/filter changed before it goes out of warrenty. This way everything is documented. He could not hook up his computer to my truck because it would void my warrenty. He said Ford can see there was another computer hooked to your vehicle.
So,,,,,,,,, I am going to wait for warmer 70-80 degree weather and try another dealership for 3rd opinon.
Just want to make sure there are no problems and they aren't just giving me the runaround.
I will chime in with the next results later.
regards.
Guess I am late in the game. Evidently the bump, clunk, mvment has been around since 2003. Took my 2010 F350 srw w/5spd torque shift trans back to a different dealer for a second opinion. A SSM 20937 2003-2010 says charateristic of powertrain mech lash. Guess the only thing to do is get the slip yoke relubed every so often. I asked my neighbor, who just purchased a 2011 SD F250 with the new 6.2 gas w/6spd trans. He said on takeoff there is a lil bump. So,,,I have joined the bumping Ford's club. Funny never had an issue with my 74 F100,84 F250 or 91 EconoVan?. Guess it is all the New Technology. Course, guess I could of kept my Chev Silverado w/ the steering clunk, slamming drive shaft and slipping transmission. NAW... And don't want a Dodge. I think I'll stay with Ford. Anyway,,, I am off my soap and on to enjoying my F350. Have to go give him a wash. I like the looks I get when driving into work at the Dodge dealership.
Enjoy.....
