turbo help

im looking into upgrading my turbo from the stock .84 A/R to the 1.0 A/R but was wondering if i really need it, my truck is my daily driver and i go off-road with it sometimes, and also have ran on a 1/4 mile track. just wondering what differences i would see and are they really noticeable, and are there any gains with doing this upgrade.

I dont personally know but from what Ive got from the guys here your not going o see a big difference if you went from stock to 1.15 A/R housing. If your going to go as far to change it why dont you look into a van turbo they have 1.15 A/R housing on them and will bolt right up with a new flange

I havnt looked into it much but it seem that a new exhaust housing would be cheaper than a whole new turbo.

I know guys have done it here, Keith Spdmpo I believe did his that way but not positive. You already have the ported housing so I don't see why not. You can do something really important for your turbo along with your engine, get that K-N out of there and for about 29.00 bucks go with the 6637 Donaldson filter, the K-N lets dust get by the filter sealer, its been documented. Good deal posting up your sig..

How much are you looking at for a new housing? I bought a rebuilt van turbo off CL for $350 and a new flang is $113 if the math falls in your favor by all means do it, also price out a 1.15 housing and if the math is still in your favor get that instead and youll thank me later lol

If you're never planning on bigger than stage 1 injectors, the 1.0 housing is a good mod for a tuned truck or one with mild sticks.... A van turbo will handle
larger injectors, but is a little much for stockers unless tuned just right......

Right here, Riffraff Diesel: 6637 Clay's good people and service is top notch. If you can spring the extra cash, for 77.00 you can get the 6637 kit, it includes everything you need, you won't have to source the 4 inch pipe.. Compliment your filter with a cover and your golden.

is it really that big of a deal? all filters let some dust through. if anything couldn't i put that cover over the K&N. only reason i'm saying this is cause i really don't want to buy something twice (meaning a filter kit)

Yeah, it's a big deal. It will cause premature wear in your motor and turbo. Do you have the K&N CAI (cone-style filter)? If so, you can just take the filter off and install the 6637 in its place. It'll fit right on the K&N tube....
