I have a dealer installed AC unit but prefer to drive with my windows open in the summer. With this in mind, for the ease of working on the engine, reducing the weight, better gas mileage and having more room in the cab I am considering taking out the AC system. Question...is it worth trying to sell used, but functioning AC system? I noticed that the bracket that holds the compressor is almost home-made looking. Is it typical for dealer installed AC to have a non-factory brackets?
I would try selling it if you can its got to be worth something to someone I don't come across a whole dealer installed A/C system to often does it still work and blow cold air? What are the brackets shaped like that mount the compressor to the engine? My dealer A/C's brackets were round bar flattened on the ends with holes in them remember if you take off the compressor be sure to close off any open ports and stay away from any moisture getting in the system once the A/C components are exposed to moisture its almost ruined as the compressor is almost worthless and not work
When you remove the A/C, tape over any holes where hoses or parts attach. If not, once outside air gets into the system, if not evacuated within a coupla weeks, you can kiss the compressor, dryer tank and expansion valve good-bye.
And, the more humid the air, the faster these parts begin to rust internally.
