Has anyone here made any home-made bread? I just made a 2lb loaf of Rye and was wondering if any of you has made bread and how you SAVE it from spoiling? As there is only 2 of us, I know we can't eat it all at once...so how can I keep it?
My grandmother always put it in a bread wrapper and stuck it in the freezer. Take it out when your ready and let it thaw on its own. It should be good and fresh.
You can make demi (small) loaves. Go to a kitchen store and find the smaller bread pans.
Make the bread, knead the dough into the size loaves you want and place the unleavened loaves in the freezer. As you want bread, take a loaf out and allow it plenty of time to thaw and rise.
Bake at 350 Degrees F until done, release from the pan and allow it to cool on a rack. Butter the loaf if desired.
Then:
Have plenty of high quality thinly sliced kosher Corned Beef, fresh sauerkraut, thousand island dressing and swiss cheese and a jar of claussen pickles.
Spread the dressing on both slices, assemble with a sliced of cheese, 4oz of corned beef, a tablespoon or 2 of kraut, a slice of cheese and grill on both sides. Serve pickles on the side with chips and a pitcher of beer.
Dude, that would be the most perfect Ruben samich that you ever had!
Can't keep it from getting stale...Breads from the store are loaded with preservatives. I agree with what the other guys say, Find a way to get it into the freezer!!
