ECT EOT

I had a couple of questions about ECT and EOT differences.

I recently had my EGR/Oil cooler replaced along with VC-9 flush 10,000 miles ago. I was towing my trailer yesterday, which is 20ft dual axle that prob weighed in at 5k. So my question is, my ECT and EOT dont go over a 10 degree difference no matter how hard you work her which is good. But yesterday while i was towing it was prob 50 degrees out so it wasnt warm at all. The temps were climbing It was about 210 ECT and 218 EOT on my insight CTS. Now i know the difference is normal. But how hot can those temps comfortably get? Is that a normal temp to be seen towing 5k @ 50 degree outside temp? At what point temp wise (ECT, EOT) does a 6.0 defuel?

I can't answer ALL your questions, but I can tell you your temps are fine! Were you stop and go or straight highway driving?

It was straight highway. I need to find out at what temp EOT ECT wise that a 6.0 will defuel because you can set it as your max thresh on the Insight CTS.

By "Severe Service" I believe it means "putting my foot in it to get up the mountain as fast as I can get there pulling the 8,000# TT."

Normal I believe is empty, pulling nothing.

I've seen my EOT get to 230* climbing Sexton Grade on I-5 in southern Oregon in the summer. Wasn't there long, but it did get there.

Ya i dont think pulling 5k, low profile trailer in 50 degrees would be considered servere usa. Looks like my cooling syst may have an issue.

The thermostat isn't even fully open until 219. I don't think 210 is anything serious.

I am with the other 2 posters.

Your temps are fine. Or at least I wouldn't worry about it if I had them.

When I pull my TT (7800#) on some of the hills, or even on interstate with a headwind my eot/ect's will reach into the 230 range. I would say your fine.

Ok thanks guys! I still have to figure out why my rigs throwing a P0528 code which is a no cooling fan circuit. I may have a bad fan clutch on my hands. I'll let y'all know if my temps change or if my clutch is bad or not. Either way gotta wait till pay day till a can buy the clutch so it may take a while unforunatley

Do you happen to know when it defuels ECT wise?

Is your EGR valve plugged in? If not it has some control over your fan.

I am not sure when defueling happens with ect! Never defueled on me. I know I got stuck in february, with the radiator blocked, it was getting pretty hot (in the 240* range) and it never missed a beat. (I unblocked the radiator and it cooled in a hurry)
