I have my truck stripped to the frame and starting to sandblast. But I need to take the fuel lines, brake lines and wires off the inner frame to sandblast. So while there off i was going to replace them, Fuel lines are under 100 bucks but brake lines are about 140. So i was wondering if you guys have experience buy bulk brake lines and bending your own?
Depends on you. I've always bought straight lengths fuel/brake and bent them as needed. But then I always tweak the routing a bit as well. For the net difference in buying the bulk lines and then getting them bent up, it may be worthwhile to get the pre-bent, one less project within a project, lol.
doing your own brakes isn't too bad at all. all you really need is a flaring kit and maybe a tool for bending the lines because ford's have some pretty crazy bends in the brake lines.
My dad has the flaring and bending tool so its just a matter of buying the line and bending it. How long did it take you guys to bend your own? Also I'm not sure what to do with the brake lines that go up to the master cylinder because they make those crazy circles so I was thinking about leaving them alone.
I redid all of mine it took me around 8 hrs total work. Under 30 bucks in lines and well worth it. To get the circles up to the master just use a big a** socket take it slow and you'll get a nice circle.
co425 thats really nice, i might do my own to save money and do it the way i want. did you use the stock connectors on the frame to hold the lines to the frame?
I noticed you had the stage 8 locking bolts on your headers, would you recommend them over regular bolts? I'm about to order the headers for my 460 and don't know if i want to spend an extra 43 bucks for them.
I have decided to bend my own,i found my dads double flaring kit and bender but the bender isn't the best so I ordered a new bender and bending pliers
this is the bender
and these are the pliers
what did you guys use for bending your brake lines? Any idea what size the brake lines are? 3/16?
