1996 Ford F-250 5.8 gas. 125,000 miles and decide to service tranny and install Trans-go reprogramming kit in forward accumulator..Truck shifts great but after 200 miles the front pump starts pouring fkuid out like it walked the bushing out and kicked out the seal..SO, pull the tranny and the seal is in tact as well as the bushing..Tranny looks great inside but going ahead and freshening it up with new steels, fibers, band and seals...Question for the people in the know is what can be done to keep the front seal from pouring fluid out..I plan on drilling the drainback in the pump out to a .25" and notchin the new bushing so that it doesn't cover the hole partially..Also going with a Precision industries brown seal which is supposed to be better than the grey FORD seal(National)..Just curious if anyone has a surefire fix for this annoying problem with the E4OD and the 4R100????
I have heard from a transmission mechanic that the updated seal is blue colored. There may be more than one, but I think either way you'll be better off than the factory gray seal.
The Brown seal I obtained is a Viton Seal by Precision. This seal is supposed to be the answer for the sporatic front pump leaks that have plagued the E4OD and the 4R100 for so long....We will find out tomorrow........
