Paint bubbling on 2009 F-150
I am a new user, and was hoping to get some advice from everyone out there. I have a 2009 F150 Supercrew Platinum 4x4. I bought the truck new in April 2009, it has 49000kms/30500mi on it today. I have had the truck rust proofed by Krown rust control twice now. I recently noticed extensive paint bubbling on my tailgate. The entire tailgate is covered. I wash the truck during the winter, but never really get a chance to take a close look at it like I would when washing and waxing during the summer months. After noticing the tailgate issues I notices the same thing on the rest of my truck, everywhere except for the hood and roof is affected, with the tailgate being the worst area. I have had my truck in the my local dealer and within two days Ford has approved the dealership to paint the entire truck except for the hood and roof under warranty. This quick response from Ford suggests to me that this is not a new issue and that Ford is hoping that by painting the truck owners will go away without an argument. My concern is what happens 5 years down the road, will my truck begin to bubble up and rust again? I'm going to contact Ford customer service directly and see what they will do for me, as I'm not sure I want to keep a truck that has already rusted and is only two years old. Has anyone else experienced the same problems, and if so what was your outcome? Thanks.

Well here's the answer, I've done a little research and it looks like there are other owners of new trucks out there that have had the same problem. I don't think it will be the first anyone has heard of this but, during shipping on the train they blame hot dust / sparks from the trains brakes on hitting the paint creating small pinholes which are barely visible. Over time moisture gets in behind the paint and causes the problems I am having. Yes I am thankful Ford has agreed to fix my truck but you'd think somewhere in the $60000 price tag they could put something over the vehicles during shipping if this has occurred numerous times.

In autobody, we call it rail dust. Ford warranty for typical rust only covers sheet metal perforation, an exception being rail dust from shipping on the train transport. If this is the problem, it needs to be completely removed or the spots will come back. As the old saying goes, "rust never sleeps".
