T.R.C 79 build thread
-1979 Bronco Custom
-1970 T-bird 429 28,xxx miles with dove heads, RV cam, edlebrock performer intake and 750 carb, blueprinted and balanced with hardened valves etc.
-C6 tranny rebuilt with a shift kit, 28,xxx miles
-6" lift, radius arm drop brackets and superlift coils, 4" blocks and 2" lift leafs
-39x18x15 mickey Thomson Baja Belteds
-lots and lots of other new parts on it, alternator, radiator, exhaust etc.
When I bought it, the 9" was grenaded, so I threw a new one together with some gears etc we had lying around. However it only lasted 3 wheeling trips (no big surprise there) so its time for some upgraded axles obviously.
The plans include (roughly) ;
-Sterling Rear, ditching the blocks and going to either Deaver 6" lift springs or a sky shackle flip kit and smaller blocks
-Dana 60 front, converting it to radius arms, with Cage Offroad arms. and either FOA coilovers or Cage progressive coils
I have the axles already, just a matter of getting all the brakes, drivelines etc
Well here's some pictures of the bronco and what progress has been made so far, any opinions or advice are greatly appreciated

Here's some of the evidence that a 1-ton swap is necessary

And here's some pictures of the 9" I built for my senior seminar project

and back in the driveway

And a few pictures of my what started it all for me, my Dads rig

I have a little bit of an update, here's some parts I've gotten for it.

Not bad for a 1-ton big block Bronco with some decent suspension

I got the Np205 all cleaned up and my new 4 bolt flanges on.

My Dana 60 is finally ready to go under the truck and weld on my radius arm mounts

You may have noticed the lack of brakes, well I'm digging through all my extra calipers to make a couple good ones, and putting new seals in them.

Got brakes?
I got the passenger side shock hoop mounted, ended up having to trim the inner fenders/ac unit. I also got the center section trimmed up and the axle under the truck, hopefully have it centered front/rear and side/side and have the caster angle set tonight so I can start mocking up my radius arms.
Before

After

got the rear end cleaned up and ready to go in, and the bump stops off my dad's rig and ready to go on mine and have the axle just about set up under the rig
The rear axle before:

After(still needs brakes diff cover powder coatedand some more cleaning up):

The front axle under the rig (forgot to take pictures with the ra's mocked up :twak)

Where the magic...errr...work happens

Got the RA's mocked up and caster angle set

Then made the sides of the RA's level and tacked on the RA brackets

I pulled the axle back out from under it and will do the finish welding tonight or tomorrow morning hopefully, then as soon as the RA's get back from powder coat I can thrown the front end together

That's some incredible work you've done. Plus, it looks like you're very precise with it, which is awesome.
I'd love to have a shop to work in like that....
Well done!

got the one ton swap finished up, and wheeled it for a little while before getting stationed overseas for a couple years.

while I was home on leave the piston got in an argument with the piston rod, and they decided to part ways

I recently got back stateside, with a pile of parts welcoming me. I assembled my new motor, a SCJ headed 545ci Stroker.
build specs:
-Lunati Voodoo forged 4340 crankshaft (4.5 stroke)
-Lunati Voodoo forged 4340 H-beam connecting rods with ARP 2000 bolts
-Diamond Racing forged pistons (.030 bore w/Cobra Jet valve reliefs)
-Diamond Racing file fit plasma moly rings
-King HP/XP bearings
-Ford Super Cobra Jet aluminum heads w/ bowl blending and port work
-Lunati roller rockers
-Lunati solid flat tappet cam/lifters
-High Flow Dynamics Street/Strip oil pump
-Weiand Stealth SCJ intake
-L&L 3/4 length headers
-Lunati 9-key billet timing set
-Full MSD igntion (pro-billet dizzy/6AL/coil/wires)
-11:1 compression

while building the motor I also installed Autofab Bulged fiberglass fenders. The Bronco has taken a turn and is now becoming a more "go-fast" prerunner oriented build. Also, its now on 40x13.5x17 MTR's and Walker Evans Beadlocks.

then McQueen Products contacted me about their new front end and I had to have it!

Oh! and I got some new butt holsters

And thats pretty much where it sits now. Ive had about a month or two of time to work on it in the last 4 years... I'm deployed currently but but i'll be stateside again soon and have big plans for it!
Next up:
Full cage bumper to bumper
New 1150cfm Dominator Carb
full manual valve body
Paint
Front suspension:
3.0 King double bypasses
2.5 King Coilovers
2.5" King hydraulic bumpstops
limit straps
axle truss
Rear Suspension:
Deaver leafs
Camburg +1.5" Shackles
