2004 EX XLT . Need to know how long to let the vehicle sit in order for the sealer to cure. And what other things to make sure the glass company screw it up. Apparently a shingle from somewhere blew across the drivers side. We had big time winds yesterday. All scratched and brown tar marks right in the drivers viewing area. Do i request an OEM windshield or is there a better on out there. Tried search and not much help
Thanks.
replacing windshields is a yearly thing here, normally your good to go right away. after 24hrs your good. keep a window cracked for that period of time also to keep the air pressure from causing issues.
your just reminding me i need to replace mine as its cracked again. damn rocks.
its funny about there commercial though, "she didnt want to drive with that cracked window" lol pretty much every alaskan car/truck has a cracked window haha
Cure time is dependent on brand/type of urathane they use. Drive away could be as little as 1/2 hr after putting it in, which is about the tine to put it back together and give it a good inside cleaning. Full cure could be upwards of a week, but nothing there to worry about.
Any of the north American brands will be good and like said most local glass shops should take care of ya.
These w/s are notorious to leak, so maybe ask them non directly if they have heard of it being a problem, just to see what they say. When we put them in I will prep the glass and run a bead around the glass to seal the outer rubber to the glass before install. The rubber comes pre installed, but not very well and that is part of the problem of leaks.
Ive been the the biz for 20 years, there are good brands and ones I wouldnt put in mine if they were free. Carlite (oem), Guardian and Pilkington are the best. Safelite (SGC) makes one of the worst. Like Wallz said most big companies use urethane that has a 1 hour drive away time but some small one guy companies might use a cheaper and slower sealant. Driving them too soon wont hurt your vehicle it is just for you and airbag safety.
These better brands come with better moldings also. They stay on better and they dont curl or come loose. Cheap brands might be thinner, distorted, no UV layer, bad curves and cheap moldings.

My original windshield cracked after 6 years of good service. Called Safelite and had it replaced for <$200. They were quick to show up and get it done. Looked good when they left. It wasn't a month later that a rock flew up from a truck without mudflaps, and I had a dime sized bullseye right in the middle. I've had rocks like that fly and hit the OEM glass without any damage. I absolutely agree that the OEM glass is better than Safelite.
The good news is that a $20 Permatex windshield repair kit all but made the bullseye go away.

Safelite brand SGC is much lighter, you can tell the difference when you set the glass by yourself. They use a lot of PGW also which has sent over half of their manufacturing to China and their quality has gone down the tube.
