Just finished the DS conversion on my '86 F150.
Slick and easy, thanks for the write up
What temp sender do I use? the stock 2 terminal or a aftermarket?
TIA

Most 2 wire temp sensors are for the computer, not the guage. Keep looking, and I bet you'll find a single wire sensor that is for the guage. Which engine? V8 is usually towards the front of the intake, while an inline 6 has it hidden towards the back of the engine, below the manifolds.

there is one under the manifolds but has a cut capillary tube from an old mechanical gauge.
I removed the two stud/plug sender at the thermostat housing and installed a NAPA ts6535 but it reads way to high, just wondering if anybody had a echlin or dorman number for the one with the right resistance.

If you get the correct sensor for your truck, it should work fine. It will be a single wire sensor with a red/white or white/red wire.

Personally, I would go buy another aftermarket gauge like was on it with the capillary tube. Much more useful info than the factory gauge.

The two-wire sensor is for the computer; there is a one-wire sender for the gauge.

For your gauge it should be a NAPA TS6628SB single wire sensor.
