So a couple of weeks ago my truck started exhibiting really odd behaviour. In the mornings after a cold soak, my "Service Advancetrac" warning message would come on and I would lose all steering wheel located controls and my exterior lights would all turn on and stay on, seemingly by themselves. Even when I turned the truck off the lights would stay on until the battery saver cut-off kicked in after about 15 minutes.
This behaviour would remain until I'd been driving for 15 or 20 minutes and then all of a sudden everything would correct itself and return to normal operations. But once the truck had sat for a few hours, I'd get the same issue recur.
In addition, a few times during the night, my truck would suddenly turn on all its lights, again remaining on until the battery save timer did its job and shut them off.
I monitored this behaviour for about a week and clearly it was temperature related - what I couldn't tell was whether it was operating temperature related or ambient air temp related. Each time it happened, the BCM started throwing "network communication lost" DTC's - mainly with the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM). I suspected the BCM was the culprit - probably a bad solder joint on the board that would expand and contract with the ambient temperature changes. Outside temps would range from -1 C (nighttime) to +10 C (daytime) during this period.
Anyway, long story short, Ford agreed and replaced the BCM a few days a go. Problem solved.
