I apologize for probable duplication, but looking for specific info.
'01 F250 4x4 7.3 192,000. Towing 11-12k 5vr to Colorado and Wyoming this May.
Budget is an issue, so is synthetic worth the cost? Is it more the properties during hard use or lasting longer? One of the great attributes of synthetic is it lasts longer, but with a 100 dollar plus difference I really have to weigh all considerations right now. It is about to get changed anyway, so now is the time.
I get what can happen, but there have to be thousands of "normal good quality atf" trannys out there towing, so real experience is worth listning to.
Thanks for any thoughts.
Tom.
Greetings...just use what Ford recommends for all your fluids...they know what they are doing...Everybody says use this or that...they don't have a clue as to what they are talking about...by that I mean most of them...some do...unless they are engineers and worked for Ford or some other company that has tried and tested fluids stay away from everyone's opinions...Like I said...just use what Ford calls for...
You are not running a racing engine or doing any kind of "truck work" that requires anything "special"...Again ... just use what Ford calls for and you will be fine...
Now you got it going. Mercon V is synthetic??
I know Ford makes a synthetic blend Merc V, but they also have dino version.
I have never heard that before??
By the way thanks so far for the replies, the fact that Ford has a syn blend doesn't help my decision much, their info says pretty much the same for both types.
Must be an old list as LV had replaced SP for the newer automatics...... SP is no longer available from Ford! (Unless some dealers still have it in stock.)
•Not for use in applications where MERCON® V, MERCON® SP, Continuously Variable Chain Type Transmission Fluid, Motorcraft® Premium Automatic Transmission Fluid, FNR5 Automatic Transmission Fluid or Type F Automatic Transmission Fluid is recommended
