Steering squeal.

Steering squeal.
My wife has an 01 Escape...approaching 200,000 miles.
It's starting to squeal when you turn the steering wheel, but there is NO evidence of a power steering fluid leak. Nothing on the floor, and no loss of fluid.
If you stomp on the gas first, the squeal is quieter, which indicates a PS pump failing to me, but I'd expect it to be leaking.
Any thoughts?
