Hey everyone I have trolled the site for awhile now and had to join due to the plethera of knowledge on here. SO my father in law gave me a 86 regular cab longbed 4x4 f250 460bb c6 tranny 3.55 gears. the truck has sat for 7 plus years. Originally for broken flexplate but has since gotten a new TC and flexplate. So the truck has CA emission. I live in AZ. The truck is missing pretty much everything for the emissions. So my question is... I am pulling the motor to rebuild and wondering if i get headers
(to get rid of the air tube manifilds) and a non ca alternator bracket to get rid of empty slot for air pump and purchase a non ca emissions sticker from lmc truck and stick it on think it will pass emissions? If not what Can I to to get this thing going i dont want it to sit around and end up in the junkyard. Thanks everyone.
I would do some research. You are saying a non-California 460 did not have any air pumps at all, and no other emissions? I am not up on the different 460 versions, but I find it hard to believe it didn't have anything on it in 86.
If all you are worried about is the air pumps, just put them back on. They don't really hurt anything as far as performance.
Hey franklin.....The truck is originally a CA emissions truck. I live in AZ though. The smog pumps and some other parts are in a box in the bed but they have been rained on for the last 7 years and sitting out in the az sun as well. I want to just get rid of it and just have a good running rebuilt 460 and im going to run cats so im hopin it will pass. I will post some pics soon so you guys can get a visual on what im talking about.
just looked up on Mitchell on demand for that year and model emissions are same for California or federal emissions, so pumps n all will have to go back on for emisions inspection.
There are two components of the test - visual & tailpipe emissions.
About the visual. Sections 203(a)(3)(A) and (B) of the Clean Air Act mandate that all factory-
installed emissions control devices must remain on the vehicle for the lifetime of the vehicle
with a maximum fine of $2,500 per compromised or missing device.
That under-hood sticker is mostly just for reference, the VIN tells all to the inspectors.

At least you have the parts. You may have to get new pumps. Pumping fresh air into the exhaust does help it pass. If you want to run headers, and you have a welder, you could possibly add the fittings for the AIR into the headers, if you can't buy them with the fittings already installed.
ok so how can this guy get away with havin non A.I.R. manifolds and pumps and all that? And he has the same truck I do .....Obviously ALOT nicer hahaha
