I looked on my library's auto repair website and it shows it on the front side of radiator support at top . From pic it appears to be on passenger side near one of the rubber topped hood alignment adjusters. I tried to copy link but it doesn't paste. Sorry.

Thanks Maz, just come back inside from checking....still can't find it. On the front side nothing on either side, back side passenger side there's a relay box with three relays inside. Drivers side is the anti-lock brake box.

Just looked again..... still no luck, ran the wiring back from the coils and wiring goes into main wiring behind the throttle body.

According to the manual, the only vehicle that used a stand-alone ICM in 1996 was the 3.0 Aerostar. All others had the ICM integrated into the PCM.

I think I found the answer:
CPS (Cam Position Sensor) was added starting in 1995 (1994 in California). At this time Ford changed to a 104-pin computer (it was a 60-pin) and moved the DIS functions into the computer, previously the DIS system had a TFI module as a separate unit mounted on the front of the intake manifold.
Taken from here: The Ford Ranger 4-Cylinder Lima Motors - The Ranger Station

One of the reasons this part is difficult to find is that Ford (and parts suppliers) use so many different names for this part. ICM, ICA, DIS module, TFI module and who knows what else. This isn't the only part that is plagued with multiple names/abbreviations.
