I am having a weird problem with my truck and hope someone can help. I just had the trans and engine rebuilt. The truck runs great, idles fine, but sometime when braking for a stop sign or to turn, it will idle down and die. It always starts right back up and runs strong.
The trans was built with suncoast products including a triple disc convertor. The engine has stage 2 injectors that were flow tested, new adrenilin HPOP, and an upgraded turbo.
The problem happens when slowing down and turning a corner and sometimes but not as often just come straight up to a stop sign. The faster you approach with harder braking, the more likely it is to die. As you let off and start braking, the engine returns to idle and will dip down to 400 rpm and lower and snuff itself. It idles fine at 600 in park.
Fuel pressure is 65lbs and ICP is in the 500's at idle. It has a new IPR and has had 4 different cam position sensors in it. Some old style, some new. We thought the convertor clutch was doing it because it was observed staying locked all the way around a corner. Should it be on as you slow down? Most cars unlock as soon as the brake it touched. The last symptom I observed made it look like it was not the clutch. When coming to a stop sign, the idle was dipping so I shifted to neutral. It died instantly. I repeated this 2 more times. It seemed as though, the converter clutch may have been driving the engine keeping it running and going to N broke the connection to the wheels.
I have had this problem too. I changed the IPR once and that fixed it. It's doing it again and I changed it again, but this time it did not fix the problem. Like you, I sometimes throw it into neutral and it still dies. My problem is very rare though. Before when it did it, it was constant.
I had a 1211 which is ICP I believe and my normal 603 when I have a program on it. The check engine light did pop on while driving at a cruise speed of about 62. It was purring like a kitten when that happened. I am not positive but I don't think it is related. The ICP pressures seemed high enough the other day when I was driving it with a scan tool on it.
Thanks Juan. I thought it should be also. I know other cars do. Can anyone else concur with this and any explanation of why it would die instantly when going into neutral.
I am having a very similar problem and have posted recently. Mine just shuts off when manually shifting from 1st back to drive after coming to a stop from high RPM's. I read a post suggesting that the screen on the FPR might need to be cleaned bur have not had a chance to do it yet. Have you cleaned your FPR screen ?....
When manually shifting to 1st after it warms up, while sitting still, does it try to stall? If it does, does it also try to stall when shifting into reverse?
Have not tried a manual downshift to make a corner but as far as sitting still and shifting to reverse, it is fine. It idles perfect at 600 rpm. Goes below 400 sometimes when slowing down and it pukes out.
