hi, yesterday i bought new pads and rotors but once i pulled the old ones off i found that my rotors and hub were one part. parts stores and even dealer did not have this type so before i start cutting them apart i thought i would ask here if this is what i should do.
they look they are machine welded so should i cut the studs off (welded onto hub)and punch them out and sperate the hub and rotor? and will just pressing in new studs without welds be sufficient when i put them back on? what's weird is the haynes manual says that some models have the rotor and hub as one integral part and even the dealer has no listing. wtf.
The rotor and hub should not be one part. To get the rotor seperated from the hub you have to pound/press out all the lugs. The rotor should then come apart from the hub.
that's what i plan on doing but the studs are welded on so they will have to be cut off at the weld. the weld is to clean to be done by someone and the haynes manual does say that some models are one part. thank for the reply though.
I have an 86 and have been researching this process myself. My pass rotor is way out of spec. From what I've read if your truck, and I suspect it's an 87 or early build 88 switched from a 2 piece hub and rotor to a one piece. After mid-88 the builds went back to 2 piece. I'm not sure if you could switch from the 1 piece to the 2 piece upon replacement but I assume in theory it should be fine. This research is for a 4x4 but I imagine it's the same.
If your truck is 4x4 I understand there is a seal in the hub you should replace. If you happen to know what that seal is (part # or link from a website) you'll be my hero.

my truck is a 95 150 4x4 5.0 thanks for the replies and links. i guess i should order the correct new ones rather than cutting the old ones apart.
smashclash, i believe what you are asking about is the dust seal behind the rotor. i am not sure of the part number for this, sorry.
