Ok guys n gals, quick ? for ya. Since I've been playing around with the tailgate and stuff I thought I might try something. I'm missing the hood emblems on my 55 and right now money is tight so I got to thinking on how to fix this. I came up with an idea to make my own out of 16 guage sheet metal. I measured where the holes for the old emblems are and it was close to 4" tall and 16" long, I'm not sure what the actual emblem is. Then since I wanted it to match the rest of the stuff on the truck (tailgate script) I used the Edwardian Script to come up with this, as it is right now its 3.5" tall and 16" long. The letters themselves will be close to 1/4 inch wide so they will be noticable. Tell me what you think, hope ya like...
Go for it! Waterjetting was presented by charlieled not too long ago for a tailgate he did, and showed some pics. I'm looking to do the same on our company's plasma table for my IH tailgate.
Can you do a mock-up/ photoshop on your truck. Would be nice to see the perspective. Love the idea of the custom emblem.
Sorry I didnt get back sooner, work this week has been rough. Heres some pictures of the template I used taped to the hood itself so you can get a better idea of what it will look like. I myself think they are abit long but I can shorten them abit between the F and the 100 if I need to. I don't know if you guys can see ,but right above the first 0 and at the bottom of the second 0 of the 100 is oa couple of the holes for the original emblem theres original holes at the bottom of the 1 at the top of the d and just under the o in Ford. Anyway heres some pics hope ya like...
Very Nice! I suppose that you will weld the holes in the hood shut and use adhesive to affix the letters and numbers? I think that the spacing between the F and 100 is about right, but it needs a dash in between. (-)
What colors are you thinking for the truck? Will you have the letters and numbers chromed, powder coated, or painted? Jag

Yes I will be filling those holes in the hood up with weld. As for putting them on its either adhesive or I can drill small holes every couple of inches use some small bolts, weld them in and grind the tops smooth so they can be attached like the originals but I'm not sure so yet. My color scheme is going to be a dark gunmetal metallic and a dark metallic red, something close to yours. The pic of the tailgate I'm working on is close but I want it darker than that. The emblems color I haven't decided on, with the dark colors of the truck. My brother mentioned painting them a cream color but I figured I still have awhile before I get there...
Oh yea, If you look at the pic at the begining of the thread it shows the dash between the F and 100 and I plan on putting it in there...
This custom lettering is a great idea. We may start seeing all kinds of slogans or names on the effie hoods. Right off the bat I can see guys wanting to continue the theme of the personalized plates:
To me it looks a little too big overall. It might look a bit gaudy when all is said and done. Again, just a personal preference but I think at least a 50% reduction would work better. It would be a bit more subtle instead of in your face
but as for design, I think its awesome! Keep up the good work
Bobby
Is there a reason that the "d" is cut out in the center? All other letters "F, o, 0" are left solid in the loops. Just asking.
I like the look, but not sure on the size. What length/ height was the original?
I just haven't gotten around to cutting the insides of those letters out yet.lol I'm not sure on how big the original one is. I just took a tape measure and measured from the first noticable hole to the last and it was 14-ish inches so I wanted to go just abit wider to make sure I wasn't making it to short and from the upper holes to lower holes was 3.5 inches. I wish I knew the size of the original but the design I made is 17 inches long by 3 inches tall and I can shorten it some if needed...
