checking cylinder bore

i'm going to try to re ring engine. Can i use a micometer and telescoping bore gauge ?? i was going to buy a cheap set.


also what the difference between using that or usings a dial . bore gauge?? or do i have to use both??

also i saw some dial bore guages with these 3 feelers on it?? what are those for??

Wen it comes to accuracy there is no substitute for a good bore gauge that reads on .0001". You could use a snap gauge and mics to get a idea where your at but there are so many places in a bore to check it would be a real pia to check like that so many times. There are actually 4 points on a bore gauge, 3 center it and one does the measuring.

Is this what u mean by snap gauge? I was talking about using this and a mic.
