Same price or even if it is cheaper, an 800 CFM carburetor is much too big for your motor with the stock intake, unless you are out drag racing your pickup truck and your engine spends a lot of time at 5,000 RPMs or above. An oversize carburetor is not only harder to tune, but it also wastes gas, pollutes more, and is actually slower at lower RPMs than a smaller carburetor of the correct size.
For your motor, you will be much happier with a 600 CFM carburetor for throttle response and street use.
I agree. 600 is plenty. 800 would be a dog on your engine. Depending on how you drive and what you use the truck for, you might even be a little happier with a 500 cfm carb like the Edelbrock 1403.
I used to own a carburetor shop here in Newport News. We used to see all kinds of overcarbureted vehicles. 600cfm is great for that engine, Ford used a Holley 600 on the 390GT engines, even the 428CJ only went to 735cfm stock.
