Spooled or welded fronts aren't as bad as people think. You do realize that if you unlock one hub, its just like driving an open carrier, right?
Paul, what is your Bronco geared to? Is it locked?
Okay, just wanted to ask. I realize that locking one hub is like driving with that tire pulling all the time. Least you'll know which one will break when it gets in a bind.
just 31's right now. i'm in a bad spot with it. i had 40's and geared/locked axles lined up for it, and afaik the guy still has them, but he was screwing me around on pulling the axles out of the truck they are in and dismounting the tires off his rims. now i don't have the money for them because i am horrible with saving cash
so basically, as usual, i have no clue what i'm going to do with it. new neighbor is trying to help me get set up with a job where he works, good money, bad hours, but you gotta take what you can get. if that works out the double income will start affording some parts and progress, but until then bills and kids come first, truck is last on the list.
You would be better off with a open diff, its nothing like driving a open diff when you unlock one hub. Get on the gas, and it will pull to the side that is locked in, and with both locked in, breaking shafts is easy as a sneeze.
If anything a powerloc or maybe a "lunch box" locker if you are easy on it.
I appreciate the input, but I have driven one before and I am OK with it. Remember, there is going to be a 300 in this thing. I am not going to have high HP numbers, so there will be very little wheel spin, and chances to break shafts will be minimized. I still have to buy a carrier for the 4.56 gears, so I might as well go with a spool, its cheaper than an open carrier and allows for both wheels pulling if I need it.
People should also know that this isn't being built like most other peoples trucks/wheelers, I have different goals in mind.
Another thing to remember, lower hp breaks stuff easier to a point.
I just figured I'd give u a heads up. I just don't think you will be happy with it. Most parts I have broke have neen just off idle where wheel speed and slipping is almost non existent
Yea i welded my front with the 38's and a 460 worked okay for a little bit but hated the welded front made it just as far with a open and was easier on parts.... and me i broke axle's pinion and my wrist along with dislocating my shoulder when mine let go
But like you said its all about what you want, just let us know how ya like it!
