Definitely not equal. There are several chemistries out there. Some with some serious compatibility issues.
I am using good old ethylene glycol. Peak brand. Have to change it every 2 years, but it is proven and very rarely has issues. Just make sure you thoroughly flush the system first in case it had Dex-Cool or other OAT type coolants before.
I personally try to use propylene glycol which is non-toxic, and I can, without much guilt, dump it on the ground. Of course, the metal content isn't the best to dump, but at least it's not ethylene glycol.
I get the stuff from my brother-in-law who wholesales marine parts and supplies, so I don't know what it costs in the real world.
