Question A dreaded question

So, I made a 160 mile trip last weekend and the truck started smoking really bad, out the tail pipe, BLUE smoke. Looked like some of the old cars I used to drive after high school. I just got to check the oil, it is on the full mark. Ha, it was a quart low before the trip. 2000 F-350, PSD, 128,000 miles

Any ideas ?

Thanks
armstrong

So, your oil was a quart low before your trip, you didn't add any and now it's at the full mark?

Is your engine knocking at all?

it may be getting diesel fuel in the oil. i think that is a bad cup or o ring in an injector.

Oil was low when I left, I did not add any. No knocking. I also see oil that has dripped to the floor at the rear of the engine.

I am suspecting injector o-rings. However, I am not sure if that will cause your oil level to rise though....

If the truck was warm when you checked it before you went on your trip you would have had a lot of oil still sitting at the top of your heads and then if you checked it after you got back with the truck sitting over night or long enough for all the oil to fall back into the pan that would explain it. If not you got me grab a beer sit down and well figure it out

Oil has been low a quart for about 1000 miles, been checking it regular before starting it. Been 2500 miles since last oil change. Guess I'll just get new injectors and throw them at it while i'm in there replacing the o-rings. Woule A.E. tell anything ?

thanks

I would get an oil analysis and make sure it's fuel in the oil. I'm not sure how this would happen. Usually injector o rings can cause oil in the fuel. Cracked injector cups would be fuel in the coolant. Are you sure you don't have a 6.4 under the hood? Those things are known for making oil.

did you check for water in the oil. Could be water in the oil from the oil cooler.

I have not drained the oil yet to look for water. The oil smell normal.

F350-6
Oil dripping off bell housing on garage floor ? Checked the fuel bowl, dry all around and under it. There is oil in the valley back by the turbo, any suggestions on this ?

Thanks to all

I would guess your oil leak was probably there before and is likely unrelated to your making oil issue now. I was thinking with the blue smoke that you had injector o-ring issues. Is there any sign of oil in the bottom of your fuel bowl filter? Any signs of oil in the degas bottle? Maybe you've just got a bad oil cooler o-ring as Brad suggested and the contaminated oil is making it smoke.

OK, totally lost here but truck is still smoking very bad. Fuel in bowl is clean. Fuel pressure is 65 psi. With AE I have a code. P0308 Cylinder 8 misfire detected. What could cause this ? Will this cause a lot of smoke ? Truck idles fine and will go up the road, just lot's of smoke.

Thanks in advance.

Look in your tail pipe to see if there is oil in the exhaust. If you have oil in the exhaust, you may need to rebuild the turbo.

when my turbo went it would blow out a big ball of blue smoke when it spooled down after I smashed the skinny pedal LOL.
