When I was on my trip to Texas last weekend while pulling the fifth wheel my temps got to 195 when going over the Arbuckle mountains. My temps were running anywhere from 170 to 190 the whole time. I also had the ac going. Don't know if that makes a difference? I searched and read that as long as I didn't go over 220 I'd be ok. Does this sound all right? If I get and put on a 6.0 cooler how much cooler would the temps be compared to the stock unit?
In the summer in California I never see over 168f when towing my 30 toy hauler loaded. Made a big difference on my e99. I also ran it thur the radiator which you already have. Most times this time of year I never see over 130. I do have a John Woods trans also, that helps with lock up and all.
170-190 sound about normal with the stock cooler.
I added a Tru-Cool trans cooler right in front of the fan. I now see 130'ish empty, 145-160 towing 10k+ on a hot summer day. 170+ towing in stop and go traffic, or pulling a grade.
The 6.0 cooler is larger than the Tru-cool, but 3-4 times the price.
Our resident trans expert here Mark K. answered my question when I wanted to run a little bit cooler than the 180*-190* towing 7000 pounds in 90* summer heat and he said those numbers were just fine but I added a Derale cooler anyway just because, compliments of Clay(Riffraff Diesel), your fine. Here's what I got Riffraff Diesel: Derale 20,500 GVW Transmission Oil Cooler
