I really want to paint my '80 F-250 black and look like this. I want to be able to see my self in the paint! How would i do this? What type of paint would i use?
Thats no problem. I am in the process of a body off restoration. I also got someone lined up to paint it for me so it wont cost me thousands of dollars. So i can just spend more money on materials and make it look AWESOME!!!!!!!
Well from what I know about paint you have to start from the begining to get that type of shine.
Prep
Paint
Extreme layers of clear
and a one hell of a buffer all play equal parts in such a paint job.
Thats why I will use the red oxide primer to finish up my ride for the short term.
Extreme layers of clear will amount to extreme failure due to extreme film thickness over black in time . . Two or three layers of clear , With a high solids clear ,cut with 12 -1500 & a professional to polish it will do ..
The Pic of the finish in the original post can be improved upon . Not uniform at all ...
If you want the dipped in clear look . Paint the color , clear with 1-2 coats of clear, let it dry for a few days , Wet sand it flat , then hit it with one more wet double coat of clear ....
Whoever you have lined up to paint it should know how or you need another painter.
He is very good at it! He is 58 and started when he was in his teens. He has also done some $200,000+ cars that went to car shows and always get awards. Im sure he know what he is doing.
Should know how to do the job you want. Someone that has been doing it that long has a product line and techniques that they are comfortable with. Some will take offense to suggestions you found on the internet. Good luck and post pic's when it's done. Pick your color and turn him loose.
