You could just build a Mustruck like i did , but you need a light truck with a 302 and alot of work , mustangs are fun , but i love to pull up next to a good running fox 5.0 , and stay right at his door or like many times , beat him , its a blast , but then you can't tow or haul alot , but light loads are ok......Lew
Hmmmm....Now that we are on the subject...You think its possible to squueze 22mpg outta the truck?....Just saying.....Thinking about doing a set of fiberglass bumpers, a cowl, and a tailgate.....Thats nearly 200-300 pounds I'd think....
And IIRC, the equation equals out to 1% better mpg, for every 100LBS less on the vehicle....So, if thats true, it won't be an issue?.....I can already nab 19-20mpg highway.....So is 1-2 moe mpg THAT far fetched?
I think 18-20 mpg's with your truck is nothing to grumble about. The Mustang won't give you better than 18-20 mpg hwy unless you get a V6 or 4 banger and you'll never be able to carry much with it.
That part is not true at all, I had an '89 Notch back Mustang, with a mildly built 5.0 that would get high 20's on the highway, IIRC 29MPG was the best it did. That was with an E-cam and holley carb also!
Eh....After thinking about it, I can just add the $500 for the 4 banger to the truck....Daddy needs fiberglass...Or a shifter...Or a 3.55 rear gear....$500 is a helluva lotta money...So yea....Hell, I may even do the 5.0 swap...It literally just depends on my mood an how much money I have....lol
Reality check... Try driving a standard UK car that has a 1.2L-2.3L motor with absolutly ZERO get up and go. You won't be complaining for long.
And I am sorry to say but you can't have it all. 0-60 Speeds, HP/TQ, MPG's, and reliability. The reliability of a engine like the 300 I6 lays in it's stock form when well cared for. Once you add power options like cams, lifters, FPR/injector setups... You can kiss your reliability gone... Why not just be sensible and have a small DD car with a small engine for your general get around town (ie Honda civic, Toyota Tercel, Subaru GL car or wagon, etc, etc...) and get 30+ mpgs. Hell if you want to stay with Ford get a Tempo that gets 19city and 29 hwy! You can get good old carb cars for under $1000 that get good gas mileage and are reliable!
Now that you have good mpgs and reliability taken care of...Get a blown 351w for your truck and you'll be set!
Sounds like you are trying to turn a work horse into a race car. If you don't need a truck and just want mpg I would sell the truck and get something that better suits your needs. If you actually use the truck for hauling and what not then I would keep the truck and find a cheap little commuter car that gets good mpg. If you want a vehicle that you can get your foot in it and race around with the ricers then mpg isn't your problem it's just your excuse to sell the truck.
Like I said, I kinda have a more or less love/hate relationship....I love having my truck, cos in the summer, I haul things, mow, etc....So the truck is definantly needed....I mean, I probably get by with a ranger or whatever, but the 8ft bed is a handy thing....
And as for the car....I have thought it over, and yea, a little escort/tempo would be handy, but I really dont have a parking space for it, and on top of that, I really don't need an extra gas/insurance bill....
And no, I do not want a race truck....Just a spry lil truck...Not a full blown 500hp beast....Just a lil extra ooph for the haul/towing jobs...and a bit for the heck of it...
you all do realize this would be solved by the US allowing a medium sized pickup with a medium sized diesel... Sorry to say but if the US sold Toyota Helux diesel trucks I probably wouldn't own a Ford at all! I have friends that drove them out of country and say they got 30mpgs average... even when towing a sizable load.
That part is not true at all, I had an '89 Notch back Mustang, with a mildly built 5.0 that would get high 20's on the highway, IIRC 29MPG was the best it did. That was with an E-cam and holley carb also!
I want to learn your driving style as that kind of mileage sounds outstanding. Years ago I had a '70 Maverick that had a bone stock 200 ci I6 and C4 automatic. I never got better than 24 mpgs from a no matter how conservatively I drove it. I also never got anything worse than 16 mpg if I drove it for all it had.
