I have the Granatelli COPs in my car and they are more than double the spark energy over the stock coils. In a moderately modified engine, I'm getting slightly better gas mileage due to the more efficient burn, and better throttle response. Nothing noticeable for added hp.

These stock low tension ignitions systems put out more voltage than you would ever need to jump that gap on the plug. The spark plugs have a resistor in them to counteract RFI so that your ignition system doesn't get feedback from the discharge of high current if that means anything. We're talking about 30,000 to 35,000 volts stock here.
I just finished reading granatelli's website and they are way off on the voltage of the stock coils by a long shot. Their mid-priced "green" coils equal the output voltage of the stock coils and are priced slightly above a quality napa stock replacement. I personally have never had a problem with COPs as most of the time (I would say 50% of the time its the boot that is bad, 50% the plug is the culprit) it not the COP that is the problem. All of mine on my v10 but one are stock and that one would still be if I didn't bust the connector off of it when changing plugs.
The Napa replacement COP's in my small Alaska town run more than $60 a piece. Made it an easy choice to buy an eight pack of aftermarket Accel COP's of Amazon with free shipping to boot.
Rock Auto is one of the least expensive places I've ever purchased Motorcraft parts from. Service has been good also. Standard also makes an excellent stock replacement electronic parts for our vehicles. Since they are also an OEM supplier I would not be surprized a bit if they didn't manufacture our Motorcraft electronic parts. I purchased a Standard coil for my 01 Sable LS and it looked identical to the original MC I took off of the car except for the decals and logo.
U-pull-it boneyards are excellent places to get spare parts. Come to think of it, I have quite a few junkyard parts on my show Mustang. I have used salvage yard parts on other vewhicles as well. A few years ago I needed a BPE sensor for my old 94 Taurus. They wanted $70 for a new one from Ford. Aftermarket didn't make them. I went to a salvage yard and found 4 of them for $10. I don't have the car anymore, but I still have 3 BPE sensors for a 3.0L taurus.
I agree, I updated my 88 Mustang to a much better 3G alternator, factory hi torque starter, and such for under $50.. If you have a Pull-A-Part: Used Auto Parts For Less - Pull-A-Part in your area, they are dirt cheap.
