CB mounting in '06 Lariat SD

I'm looking to mount my CB radio (full size Uniden bearcat) onto the lower dash where the baseball cap\garbage bag holder is located. I don't want to velcro nor floor hump mount it 'cause I don't feel like drilling holes thru the carpet. This truck will be used more as my camper tugger and not my plow truck like the '94 350 was. Some of ya'll mentioned using longer screws to replace the existing 6mm short ones that holds that panel on? It seems like I might run into difficulty due to the angle of the screws into the panel plus the weight of the CB might compromise the strength of the speed nuts backing it or the plastic they clip onto? What has been done to dash mount in that area on a new-er SD?
Thanks in advance.............

If you're concerned about the weight and materials, you could stay with the same concept you described but use thin guage steel backer plates to disperse the load across a wider area. You could also go so far as getting a larger speed nut (maybe M8) while you're out getting the longer bolts.

As an update:
I used 2"x6mm screws and an old 8 track sliding mount (showing my age here) to mount my CB and make it easily removable. I drilled two new holes in the slide out plate 1 7/8" inches apart from eachother and screwed the mounting plate thru the existing holes in the garbage bag holder and into the speed nuts on the back side. I ran the magnetic mount antenna cable down the backside of the cab and thru a grommet behind the rear seat. Removing the plastic rocker panel trim, I ran the coax under it then up the firewall to the rear of the mounted plate. I bought a radio Shack powerpoint plug and soldered the ends to the mounted plate hot and cold legs. I expected some engine noise and static but I was floored to find out there is NONE. The reception is as quiet and clean with the diesel engine running as when it's off! It's a nice clean install and real easy to reach while driving. My Tekonsha brake controller is within inches of the CB, so I'll report back if there's an RF conflict between the two.
