turbo question
Wow, let me just echo your statement. I drove a EB tonight and it FAR surpassed what I was anticipating.
And I was anticipating a lot since it is twin turbo. I never in a million years thought it would of had that much power.
As for ur ?... I have no idea. just waaaayyyy impressed with the EB.

IIRC from previous topics of discussion, it has been mentioned that Ford has been building vehicles lately to reach a "lifespan" of about 150,000 miles. This was brought up in discussion about the intank fuel pumps and filters, etc. It seems like that mileage is their target before major overhaul is necessary.

As a reference the 4.6 and 5.4 were "Certified" to 100,000 miles.
As with all thing mechanical, how they are treated and maintained has a lot to do with how long they last. My current 5.4 2 valve is still running fine with 390,000 km on it. All I do is oil changes on time. And I use regular motor oil.

I agree 100% with this statement. I've seen some engines start having trouble as early as 50,000 miles (95% of the time its the owners fault) and then I've seen the same engine (Different Owner) last 300,000 miles and be realtivly trouble free. Most modern engines (Both American and Forign) will last a good long time if maintaind properly.
What kinda maintiance/service does a turbo need? I would guess It would be under warrenty? If it failed within the 5/60. I'd pull the trigger for sure. It's just getting over sayin yeah my truck has a v6, is the hard part.

Times and technology are changing and it isn't necessary to have a V8 to have power. I used to think a V8 in a truck for hauling heavy stuff was the only way to go, but no longer think like that. I believe we have just begun to see smaller engines doing big things. IMO
Why so scared of the turbo? They can outlast the life the of rest of the engine. Obviously they aren't the same turbos, but the one on my super duty had 200,000 and was still going strong. These could possibly be even better being water cooled and such.
I ve done a great deal of reasearch into these turbo's. They are water cooled and also use engine oil for the lube. No ceramic bearings. They are made by honeywell. Properly monitoring the condition of your oil and changing it when needed is going to be the key as to how long they will last. I am confident that they will last well past the 150 000 mile mark. My Ecoboost should be here within a week if not days...and I will have to do two short trips towing my kubota tractor right away and I am confident that it will have more than enough power to be a pleasant trip down the interstate
You will get over saying it when your V8 buddies are yelling hey can you slow down and we need to stop for gas!
Let alone getting better mpg. Problem is the silly little 26 gallon tank!
Engines having turbos can be considered severe duty by some oil companies. So, like most have said, maintain it well and you should be good. I had to make a financial decision to get rid of my last truck for this one due to maintenance costs. Had I known this engine was coming, I probably would've waited to buy one.
