Clean your battery terminals
Quick background...
I bought the truck used last year and it's my first diesel. It always seemed to turn over "slow" and take a while to fire up... but I just assumed that was normal.
A couple of days ago, I went to turn the key and got strange clicking, guages going crazy, etc.
Anyway, final result was bad connections on the batteries.
I ended up taking each cable end apart, cleaning thoroughly and even replaced the bolts/nut on each one. Now, when I tighten the bolt it really grabs good on the battery posts.
Anyway, the truck seems to turn over much quicker and generally just seems "happier".
Hope this helps someone!
If your battery cables are involved with the corrosion leaching from your battery terminals, change out the cables.
I fought a chronic "short" issue I couldn't track down for years. I clean the cable ends and the cable wires where I saw some corrosion. I thought the cables were fine. turns out the corrosion on the cables created alot of resistance and the ohms test proved- bad cables.
Battery Testing
Been wanting share this for a while.
I remove the batteries from all my vehicles once a year to do a through cleaning of the battery and posts, cables then reinstall using something like Noalox to coat the the posts before connecting the cables.
