Ok I have an 05 f250 6.0 and I have been wanting to do some updates for fuel milage gains so I started talking to some other diesel guys and they suggested what they had done to there trucks they put on a cold air intake system and a 4 to 5 inch cat back exhaust and last they put in a chip or a tuner. they told me to start upgrading in that order. what do you guys think? What kind of filter What exhaust? What type of tunes? or do I need to go with all that? For the tuner or programer I was thinking about the edge insight because of all the gauges it comes with, or should I get the scan gauge 2 and buy the tune separate? Also I have 40,000 mile left on my extended ford warranty will any of these updates void it? Sorry so many Questions just would like some expert answers and opinions from guys who know about these trucks. A lot of people I know drive the chevy and dodge freakin losers. Any info is greatly appreciated.
1 last thing is the scan gauge EGT capable?
any tuner if detected is a warranty buster.
what extended warranty ? IE how many years ?
I like the Insight myself.
don't touch your stock intake it is the best for what you do and you will never recoup the $ in mileage
EGT is not a PID so you will need to add a sender for the insight and others.
I don't think We can get a great milage vs cost modifier for these pigs ,, unless you can maintain your right foot ?

First off, I wouldn't recommened much of anything on your "list". Sorry
Cold Air Intakes can be a big problem on the 6.0's. The 5in exhaust is overkill and will hurt the trucks power a little. The 4in is ideal, MBRP is a quality piece, but there are also others that make a good exhaust system as well. I installed a Turbo back on mine(check with your states emissions laws) And of course lastly the Tuner..... They won't help much with the MPG's and I'm not a fan of them nor do I have experience with any. Any Tuner will void your warranty. Hope this helps.
First as Zmann said any tuner will void your warrenty.
Stay far far away form off the self "canned tunners" (ie..Edge, bullydog, banks, ect..) They are known to cause problems with the 6.0. If you want to go the tuned route stay with a tunner that can do custom tunes. They have the best track record with these motors. Most will recomend the SCT with custom tunes from either Eric at innovative diesel, or Matt at Gearhead automotive. The only other tunner I would recomend, and the only one that I know that does custom tunes for the 6.0, is the Spartan Phalanx with there custom tunes. The Edge CTS is good for a guage, but that is about it. Never install a tunner with the intent of gaining MPG. Chances are you will not gain anything. If you do it will be very little, and would never pay for itself. They are, after all, a performance enhancer first. The MPG claims are just a really good marketing ploy.
As far as an intake stay with the OEM one. It's the best thing on the market. The aftermarket ones Don't flow any more air than the OEM, at least not till you are well out of your Peak horse power and torque range. Plus, they are known to cause problems such as dusting the turbo.
As far as exhaust go with a 4 inch turbo back. Anything bigger will hurt your performance on the low end.
At the end of the day there really isn't much you can do (as far as add-ons) to improve your MPG. The best thing to do is be real easy on the skinny peddal, and try to keep her under 2k RPM's.
higher psi. on skinny hwy tires while easy on the go pedal will save on fuel but who wants skinny tires while puttin' around?
I say forgo the 2 mpg. gain and go about the 6.0 grin as intended.
However as noted above, a tuner will offer your best bet for fuel delivery and shift parameters over stock programing for either economy or power.
