I would def have it professionally done. I was going to put a do -it -yourself one in and decided against it. For all the same reasons that have been posted above. I went with an extreme liner (its exactly like Linex) from a local shop in town. They have a lifetime warranty and It cost me 417 after taxes. I tossed a rubber horse stall mat in on top of it and it has been a great setup so far.
I have an 09 and have Linex Plus. About 100 more than the Linex....dealer didn't charge me extra...but I would have prefered the regular LINEX... not as slippery. I had a Dodge Cummins before I got the Ford. I bought a cheap liner for it and always regreted it. The Linex, or Rino is a lot nicer.
I sure costs more, but when you drop 30-40K on the truck, I guarantee you will not regret it. No comparison and will help a little on resale.
Another vote for the BedRug. Had one in my F150 and now again in the SD.
If it fits your uses it's a no-brainer. No paint damage and you can take it with you to the next truck. If it won't fit your next truck, take it out and sell it.
You won't be carving up your knees crawling over it either. It's like laying on your living room floor.
Non-staining, power-washable and fast drying too boot.
My truck will be hauling primarily a mountain bike, fishing poles, gym bag, and possibly a little dirt on occasion. I love the idea and the price of the bedrug, makes the bed just like the back of my explorers, but bigger.
Just be careful what you buy on ebay, a real bedrug costs approx $350 to $400. And a clean unscratched bed will bring more resale in my opinion than a spray liner.

I just took a closer look at some of the eBay bedrug auctions. Turns out the $250 bedrug is a factory reconditioned. Might be a good way to save some cash but eBay can be a bit sketchy at times, so I think I will be hitting up a more reputable website. Especially since it's such a large purchase.

Rubber stall mat is awesome stuff. I didn't know about it until a bud who trains horses set us up with some to cover the floor in our toolroom. It's more than adequate to protect a truck bed.

I don't really agree with this, but it's all good. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. My thought is if you buy a truck that already has a top quality spray in liner (LineX for example) you're done with it.But f you buy a truck with a bare bed it will cost you another $400-$500 for a quality bed covering. Now if you buy a truck with a DIY bed liner in it that could hurt the value IMO.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
