i have an 84 F150 with a midly built 351w in it. i'm trying to swap my C4 tranny out for a AOD which flexplate will i need for this swap & yes i'm going to rebuild it to handle the power of the 351w. i need the overdrive to take some trips with it.
well the truck had a 302 in it and we built the 351w from a bare block that the builder had. the transmission shop verifird that it was a C4 tranny. should the flywheel be the 28oz correct cause i just put a new one in during the build. now i have to find the crown vic
The correct flexplate is 28oz, 164 tooth, and will be stamped AOD specific. The difference between it and the other varieties is with the front to back offset when mounted on the crank, the C6/E4OD flexplates have too much offset which pushes the TC back too far and that will result in immediate death of the transmion due to metal on metal contact inside the oil pump.
not sure if its a removable bellhousing or not. thanks Paul for that info. another question which cross member do i use i know the one that i have now won't work would it? if there's anything else you guys could tell me about this swap please do. my wife is ready for me to finish up so we can cruz down by myrtle beach in it..
i would get the crossmember from an 85-86 bronco with a 5.0/AOD combo.
like 85 mentioned if the tranny you have is infact a C4 the bellhousing is removable just like the older Manual trannies. if its not then you have a C6
