why not swap it out isint the 351m a bigger engine what is the comparision to the351wi dont know much about the 351m but i have one with 12,000 miles on it with a two wheel drive trans but i m looking for a 4wd trans
There isn't anything wrong with the 351M, but for the amount of work you would have to do, it would probably be easier to rebuild your 351W. As stated above, you need a different transmission or at least a bellhousing.
The 351M is an OK engine, not a good or even great engine, -just OK. The 351M was not really restricted tho unless you count the long rods and tall heavy pistons. It was free breathing but not free revving. The 351W had the same bore and stroke but will turn higher RPM's better even tho it was "restricted" in the head breathing department which resulted in the nickname "Wheezer". Check with the 351W forum for more information on how to improve your existing 351W engine. There are lots of nice things available for that engine. You can swap in a 351M but many changes are required as noted above and many more. Stick with the 351W, it was a "good" engine and with mods can be a "great" engine.
you could swap the 351m heads with the 351w. After u do the proper mod's to the 351m heads
why go thru all that trouble. then you gotta figure out how to get the intake to work what manifolds to use etc.. better head choices out there for decent prices.
the 351c head's would be better than the 351m & 400 head's. And ford still or did make a aluminium version of it. I think it's for the svo block but i dont have a current performance part's book. I think the 351w require's spacer's to use the 351c/m & 400 and 302 boss intake's. Header fitment could be interesting on a mid-80's ford.
