Looking good. Always exciting when they get to this point. Nothing quite like the thrill of firing it up for the first time, the smell and sound and so on.
That really does look awesome. On picture number 4; there's not really a combination wrench laying on top of the battery, right? I've done it myself, but one time my luck didn't hold (bumped the wrench with my elbow) and I've been VERY cautious about covering up my batteries ever since......
Specs on the 390? Cam, mods, anything interesting?
390 bored .020 over .004 off the Deck, Moly Rings, Comp Cam XE256h, Elderbrock Performer Manifold with Elderbrock CFM 750 Performer Carb, Dynomax Headers into Flowmasters,, Might hold off putting in floor shifter for now haven't decided Wife thinks she wants to keep the bench seat.

Similar issue here except it's not about what she wants; it's about the height difference. She needs the seat all the way forward and I need it all the way back. I'd like to change to a floor shift but I think I'll need a pretty custom lever to make it work for both of us.....
Any clearance issues with headers on the '67? Seems like every thread I read about headers has someone who had to change starters or bend primary tubes or something to make them fit.
No issues on the headers, I had to take the engine perches out to slide it in as a package, I did have this same setup in my 70 F350 and the pipe off the left header rested against the shift lever so while I had them off I cut a small slit in the collecter and bent it outward about a 1/4 in and re welded the seam so now it looks like it will clear by a good 1/2 in or more, I did wrap the starter with a heat blanket.

So, the headers were designed to go on an engine that didn't have a tranny behind it? Nice. I'm a little nervous about putting headers on my truck since it seems like everyone has had to make some kind of mods to make them work. Guess I'll just plan to spend the whole weekend on the project when the time comes....... At least I worked out why the headers all specify 'not for Camper Specials' when I got under the truck this weekend; apparently no one has ever figured out how to bend exhaust pipe to go around that second gas tank..... I can't see anything else that would interfere.
both mine are camper specials, the pipe just barely touch but I didn't like the thought of heat sinking thru the shift lever, you could even bang the pipe in a little bit to make room

Just curious, that seems like an awful lot of carburetor for the cam grind you selected. Have you got previous experience with a 750 on a 390? I'm new to the FE's but based on everything I've picked up I was thinking a 500 would be about right for my 360 once I get the 2105 intake and a set of headers......
Before I rebuilt this motor it was in a 70 F350 I had a Holley 570 CFM , I put bigger jets in the accelerator pump and primaries & I still had a problem with back firing thru the carb during acceleration also just felt under powered, The 750 edelbrock was on this truck when I bought it and it seem to run real good with plenty of power so I'm going to give it a try with the new rebuild

I'd be curious to see how it works out from a mileage/performance standpoint. I've used oversized spreadbore carbs (780 cfm Q-Jet on a mildly built 350 sort of thing) a few times in the past but I don't have much experience with the squarebores; it just seems to me like the larger primaries would be an issue.
